Chennai, INDIA, Sep 07, 2010 – Net-O2 Technologies announces the extension of Carrier Ethernet Test suites – ATTEST Ethernet automatic protection switching (EAPS) functional and protocol conformance test suites to verify protection capabilities in Carrier Ethernet based mobile backhaul networks.
Carrier Ethernet network deployments are steadily on the rise. Service providers and network operators are rolling out Carrier Ethernet based Mobile Backhaul networks to handle various services which are both time sensitive and bandwidth intensive such as Broadcast video, Video on demand, Voice over IP, Internet access. The key challenge to ensure a very high quality of experience in these networks requires the network have adequate resiliency and survivability mechanisms.
Ethernet automatic protection switching (EAPS) mechanisms defined by the ITU-T standards G.8031 and G.8032 enables protection of both linear (Ethernet linear protection switching) and ring (Ethernet ring protection switching) Ethernet networks. The fault detection mechanism in EAPS supported networks enable automatic healing within 50 milliseconds and changeover of traffic over protected paths. EAPS provides additional support to the network operators to control their protected paths based on the intended level of protection such as uni-directional or bi-directional, revertive or non-revertive switching, individual or group protection switching.
ATTEST Ethernet linear protection switching (ELPS) test suites verify implementation of the Ethernet path protection switching mechanisms specified in the G.8031 specification from the ITU-T. ATTEST Ethernet ring protection switching (ERPS) test suites verify implementation of the Ethernet path protection switching mechanisms specified in the G.8032 specification from the ITU-T. Combined with the ATTEST Carrier Ethernet Test suites for Service-OAM, Link-OAM, CFM, Provider Bridges, MPLS and BFD, Net-O2 Technologies offers a complete testing solution to verify the protocol implementations in Carrier Ethernet based mobile backhaul networks.
